ChemStart

We help young people become scientists by making science tools accessible for practical learning.

The problem we aim to solve:

23 577 schools in SA have no lab facilities, only 3 285 have stocked labs. It's difficult for learners to love science and excel in it. It is hard also for learners to be innovators because they do not know how to connect the knowledge with its application in life.

The solution our project offers:

We manufacture a mini science kit called ChemStart for use by high schoolers at home or school. It provides a chance for hands on interaction with science for everyone. ChemStart unleashes a scientist in every learner using it. Manufacturing locally and in bulk makes the kit affordable for anyone.

The impact our project had so far:

Sold 1800 ChemStart kits and 34 mobile physical science kits to parents.

Unleashing the scientist in you…

As a little girl I wanted to grow up and become a doctor. But I couldn’t , and that is not because I was incapable. I did not pass well enough to get into medical school and was advised to study first year BSc and reapply into medical school. For the first time in my life I had to do lab experiments every day and this was hard. Because I had to catch up with everything, I did not do very well to be accepted into medical school. I couldn’t fulfill my dream and it wasn’t my fault.
I observed other learners struggle with science in the lab. This is because our schools lack the resources required to inspire learners to pursue, understand, enjoy science subjects. I have made it my mission to help other learners because I believe in a South Africa where every learner has an opportunity to fall in love with science and be the scientists they aspire to be.

Fulfilling the mission...
